From time to time, there is a pretty good chance I’m going to post about nerd things. I’m a huge mac fan and a “lifer” Mac user. I’ll probably write about little apps or tricks that make my Mac more awesome. Deal with it.

Todays tip?

Camouflage – this is a cool free app that lets you assign a hotkey to actively hide your desktop. All the icons will disappear, giving you a clean environment to work in. Hit your hockey again and your icons return. You can even assign a preference to change your desktop background when you hide your desktop, letting someone like me switch into “work mode” with a clean desktop and more stimulating background. Camouflage is free and delightful.

I’ve been fighting a gross cold for the past 5 days, so all planned recording sessions have been postponed. My apologies to all 4 of you who are as excited for this record as I am. It is a very long process when everything goes perfectly as planned. But that doesn’t happen when musicians beset to musicmaking, so your patience is greatly appreciated. I’ll keep you posted.

PS. Green Day just came on in the barber shop in which I’m posting this. How can people tolerate listening to this band?

Brandon Flowers released the first single from his upcoming “Flamingo” album. I have to say I have been anticipating this record like a teenybopper hoping for a Justin Bieber dream date. This guy is one of america’s most underrated singers and songwriters. “Serious” musicians haven’t forgiven him for The Killers’ “Hot Fuss,” while those who “love pop sensibilities” have yet to forgive him for “Sam’s Town.” While the crimes of pop and passion may keep him ever out of hearts, this first track, “Crossfire,” has the makings of the next great record to confuse Lady Gaga fans. It’s catchy, heartfelt, but features predominantly the bass guitar, acoustic drum kit, and electric guitar. Strange for a pop act, I know. This song is good, and will have you belting “lay your body down” for the next 37 days.
